Specialization: How Insurance Brokers Stay Relevant in Today’s Tech-Driven Industry

With the constant growth of the internet and digital world, insurance buyers now have the option of getting an instant online quote with minimal effort. In fact, more and more buyers are shifting away from the broker model and going directly to carriers to purchase coverage in an effort to cut costs. Now more than ever, brokers must find new and creative ways to stand out among the competition and continue to demonstrate their value in the marketplace.

Industry SpecializationSo how does a broker stay relevant? Clients look to their broker for expertise and understanding of their business. They want to know their broker will advocate for the right carrier and coverage on their behalf. In order to survive in today’s marketplace, brokers are turning to specialization within a particular industry.

By focusing on a specific niche, brokers are able to present unique offerings to their clients such as exclusive carriers, specialty claims and loss control vendors, and even grant programs. For example, if a nonprofit organization is having trouble getting funding, a broker might know of a carrier with special programs offering grants in addition to insurance coverage. The broker would look like a hero to their client by helping them solve two substantial issues. Specializing makes it easier for a broker to establish strong carrier relationships, true expertise in their clients’ industries, and unique knowledge that can help clients beyond insurance coverage.

In most cases, a Program Manager is beneficial to brokers who already specialize in a space or who are looking to start a specialty program with their current book of business. Program Managers, such as Tangram Insurance Services, create niche-based insurance programs and seek brokers who specialize in the industry associated with those programs.

Some of the benefits of using a specialized program manager include:

  • Knowledgeable underwriters specific to the industry.
  • Exclusive carriers that only select brokers have access to.
  • Additional program amenities offered to clients when purchasing coverage – background checks, grants, specialized claims/loss control vendors, etc.

Tangram’s specialty programs offer competitive coverage, grants, industry specific claims and loss control vendors, and A-rated carriers. Better yet, if they don’t have a program for what a broker specializes in, they’ll work with you to start a new one.

  • Artisan Contractors Work Comp Program

PROSIGHT SPECIALTY INSURANCE AND TANGRAM INSURANCE SERVICES ANNOUNCE THEIR THIRD ANNUAL COMMUNITY GIVING FUND PARTNERSHIP

ProSight Specialty Insurance Group, Inc. and Tangram Insurance Services, Inc. announced today their third annual partnership to fund the Community Giving Fund. Since its inception in 2012, the Fund has experienced significant growth in the number of grants distributed – increasing from 25 in 2012 to 107 nonprofit organizations nationwide.

Grants distributed by the Fund support a wide range of unique programs and services, such as the Santa Cruz SPCA and Humane Society and teenNow California, that directly impact communities that demonstrate an immediate and specific need. To view the complete list of recipients, please visit: www.ProsightSpecialty.com/CommunityGivingFund

“We received many worthy grant requests this year and are thrilled to once again have the opportunity to support the very organizations that sustain our communities and support our business,” said Rekha Schipper, President, Tangram Insurance Services. “The additional support that the Fund provides year over year has been consistently praised by our customers, especially when the overall funding climate can be unpredictable.”

ProSight and Tangram first established the Community Giving Fund to enable both companies to provide additional support to nonprofit organizations to help further their mission. The Community Giving Fund is designed for charitable organizations to apply for grants while allowing brokers to develop relationships with the nonprofit community. Among the organizations selected for funding this year across the U.S. are Progress Foundation, Neighborhood Housing Services of New Britain, Kingdom Center, Homeless Services Center and many more.

“Now in its third consecutive year, we are pleased that the Community Giving Fund has grown quickly to support more than 100 deserving community-based nonprofits,” said Ricardo Victores, President of Social Services for ProSight Specialty Insurance. “The Fund is one of many ways that ProSight strives to provide additional value and support for our customers and we are pleased to be involved with a worthy cause that directly impacts communities across the country.”

ProSight provides solutions that are specifically designed to underwrite the needs of social service organizations that provide vital services to society. This year’s Community Giving Fund grantees represent several key verticals that ProSight member companies specialize in covering including clubs and camps, advocacy and outreach groups, day care (child and adult), drug and alcohol rehab, food banks, outpatient clinics, residential care for children, services for the developmentally disabled and temporary and emergency shelters.

ProSight member companies leverage their expertise in the social services sector to serve clients with truly customized insurance solutions not typically offered by standard insurance providers. Understanding the unique needs of nonprofits and their missions, ProSight’s support of nonprofit organizations spans far beyond insurance solutions to include an affordable background check solution and discounted grant-writing services that are structured to fit a range of budgets.

In 2011, ProSight partnered with Tangram Insurance Services to deliver a comprehensive program designed specifically for nonprofit and social service organizations. As specialists in the nonprofit and social services space, the companies strive to deliver the best protection and customer service available.
